FAQs
DRA requires a $500 Initial Bond payment from each new account when they join the Damascus Recreation Association. Your bond payment is your interest as a member of our pool, allows you voting rights at the annual meeting, and will be refunded to you when you decide to sell back your membership.
The Damascus Recreation Association, Inc. is happy that you are interested in joining our community pool. The first step is to complete the online membership application
You can also mail a paper membership application to PO Box 127 Damascus, MD 20872.
Once we receive your application, your account will be set up in MemberSplash where you can pay your initial Bond and Annual Dues by credit card. You can also mail your initial Bond and Annual Dues along with your application. Once payment is received, a certificate of membership will be issued to you.
Please make sure you review our By-laws with very important information about membership.
Yes, we do accept credit card payments through MemberSplash. Please reach out to membership@damascuspool.org for account log in questions.
Damascus Pool Policy Regarding Guests:
- Each household membership is allowed 6 guests per day total. That is not 6 guests per person on a membership account.
- If you require more than 6 guests per household account, you should email Don@damascuspool.org 24-28 hours in advance to request approval for 7+ guests.
- Our intention is to make Damascus Pool a welcoming place for families and not to have large gatherings or parties during normal operating hours.
- Large unexpected gatherings create staffing issues and are unfair to other pool members.
- Please do not attempt to find 10 pool members and each of you bring 6 guests to have a gathering of 60 people. That would be a large gathering that we cannot accommodate.
- If needed, approach the DRA Board about renting the pool during non-operating hours.
You may purchase guest passes (credits) through MemberSplash online when you log into your account. You can also purchase guest passes at the front desk with a Credit Card or by check made out to DRA. No cash is accepted at the front desk. Each guest pass (credit) is $7 per person, per visit. You can also purchase a guest card for $35 dollars. Guest passes will be added to your MemberSplash account as Guest Credits. Older Guest Cards are still accepted.
A member in good standing, wishing to sell back their membership and receive a full refund of their bond, must communicate in writing by either mailing a letter or emailing the bookkeeper at pool.dra@gmail.com before April 15th of that current season. Please include Account Name and Number, Current Address or Forwarding Address, and Reason for Canceling Membership or you can fill out this Termination Request Form. Once the notice has been received, you will receive a confirmation email, the member, if they are in good standing, will then be placed on the Bond Refund waitlist, their account will be closed, and they will no longer have access to the pool. You can not be placed on the waitlist as an active member.
If you notify the board after the deadline, you are still responsible for that year’s annual dues and any assessments.
Any outstanding balance will be subtracted from the Bond Refund.
Please review our By-laws: Section 8. Refund of Membership – for complete details.

Damascus Pool Policy Regarding Flotation Devices (aka Floaties)
Damascus Pool does not allow flotation devices. The primary reason is safety and an ability to adhere to the definition and rules of Montgomery County (See below: COMCOR 51.00.02 Manual on Public Swimming Pool Operation).
- Once a swimmer places flotation aids on their body, they are no longer considered a water-safe person.
- That means a water-safe person (usually parent/supervisor) must be an arm’s length away.
Damascus Pool has found that enforcing the arm’s length portion of the rule has become problematic for the water-safe and non-water-safe person because it takes the lifeguards’ attention away from the other swimmers.
Damascus Pool has a baby pool area and steps into a 2 ft. shallow roped-off area. Many pools only a 3.5-foot section as their lowest area.
COMCOR 51.00.02 Manual on Public Swimming Pool Operation
51.00.02.01 Definitions
13. Immediate Supervision means when a Water-Safe person is no more than arm’s length from and continually observing a non-Water-Safe person. The Water-Safe person is in addition to the Lifeguard.
